Barely younger than Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Sister Eugénie was her contemporary.
Less known, she resembles her in her evangelical childhood.
Being little with Jesus required of Sister Eugénie an uprooting of her nature and a daily struggle that made her great in holiness.
“She had a filial relationship with Mary.” ‘Love Mary, love her more and more! I love her because she is my Mother. She gave me everything, she gives me everything.’”
(excerpt from Mons Henri Brincard, Eugénie Joubert, Vingt-huit ans de sourire, p.3). [Twenty-eight years smiling]
« Childhood, vocation, religious life, apostolate, suffering and death, everything in Eugenie’s life was marked by Mary’s maternal presence.»
(Dom Antoine Marie O.S.B., Abbot – Letter from Saint-Joseph de Clairval Abbey, 22 August 1996).
“Eugénie Joubert lived her short life in ‘great confidence through love, the love of the simplicity of the little child’; she focused her attention on two points that seemed essential to her: humility and obedience. ‘I will pray for all of you in heaven’ she promised her sisters. Let us ask her to guide us along the path from spiritual childhood to Heaven. ‘The Kingdom of the Little Ones’: that’s where she awaits us with the multitude of Saints. We pray to her and Saint Joseph for us and for yours, living and dead.”
