Commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the beatification

The diocese of Le Puy (Haute-Loire, France), and more specifically the parish of Yssingeaux, the birthplace of Blessed Eugénie Joubert, wanted to celebrate over several days the 30th anniversary of the beatification of Eugénie Joubert in Rome by Pope Saint John Paul II: a remembrance evening, testimonies, lectures, ceremonies, celebrations and processions with catechists from the diocese, numerous parishioners, pilgrims, Ladies and Knights of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, members of the “Friends of Blessed Eugénie Joubert” association, from Rome, Lourdes, Pau…

Here is the programme of festivities from 15 to 24 November 2024:

From Saturday, November 16 to Sunday 24 (the beatification took place on November 20), at both the “Chapel of the Penitents”, where Eugénie loved to meditate, and the local church of St. Pierre.

Many people came to pray and meditate with Blessed Eugénie Joubert during these 9 days of grace, accompanied by Monsignor Yves Baumgarten, Bishop of the diocese of Le Puy, and Father Roland Bresson, parish priest of Notre-Dame des Sucs, which includes the parish of Yssingeaux.

And there were plenty of young people too. Those from the neighbouring high school, known as Lycée Eugénie Joubert, took part in a scripted tour of Eugénie’s childhood places with a scriptwriter and lecturer, Joachim Leyronnas.

Those from the catechism classes got to know better the figure who was given as a model for catechists by Pope Saint John Paul II, and is the patron of catechists for the Catechists’ Jubilee in Rome on September 26-28, 2025.

This was made possible thanks to the testimonies of Father Bernard Planche, the French Embassy’s ecclesiastical adviser to the Holy See, François Vayne, journalist, writer and Director of Communications for the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in Rome, and Sister Marie-Marthe de Jésus, who is responsible for catechesis in the Haute-Loire area.
