The Sacred Heart and Blessed Eugénie Joubert? A true love story!
She loved the Heart of Jesus by giving herself to Him more and more! As a child and young woman, Eugénie discovered that she was loved freely and tenderly by the Heart of Jesus beating within the Eucharist. It was He who called her to be “the beloved of His Divine Heart” (“Sister Eugénie Joubert,” by a contemporary nun, ed. Lethielleux, 1911, p. 139). She joyfully offered herself to Him. As a young nun, she was shaped by the spirituality of her community dedicated to the Heart of Jesus, the Holy Family of the Sacred Heart. She sought to make her heart like His.
Read the testimonies in the aforementioned book. “On the Feast of the Sacred Heart, what happened between Jesus and His little bride? We do not know… it is permissible, however, to suppose that, on that day, Sister Eugénie must have heard, in the recollection of prayer or the heart-to-heart of Communion, some echo of the words once addressed to Blessed Margaret Mary: ‘Receive, my daughter, the Cross that I give you, and plant it in your heart, carrying it in the arms of your affections!’ ”
See Sr. Eugénie Joubert, Notebook 14, “As Long as Jesus Is Pleased.” “With you, Jesus! I am not worthy to suffer for you, but nevertheless, if you speak a word, my heart will know how to say to you now, tomorrow, always: Even more.”
